lippmann bad romance

zoya nova

i'm all blinged out today. astra as a pedi but i'll spare you feet pics.
i tried out BR over black for a mani. i like BR...but i think i should have used 2 coats to get more sparkle because the glitter isn't quite the glittery, shiny, crushed glass sparkle like Red Ruby Slippers. i had to really work to get the glitter off the brush too. i wish Deb had spent more time on the formula...it's like she stopped mid-way and then just released it w/o trying it out first.

lippmann call me irresponsible

4 coats...but i actually feel like it was worth it...and i'd do it again!
i wore it once when i first got it but i stopped at 3 and was never happy with the color but i wanted to try it again. i think if i had used an opaque basecoat it would have been even better.
it looked really great on but i just could not get a great picture of it. so here is what i did get...hope it helps.

lippmann ruby red slippers. the clear winner out of the celebrate set. it's gorgeous on it's own but it needs 3 coats to build up to opaque and with that it becomes harder to get smooth.
i layered it over illamasqua boosh this time and it's wearing like iron.
it was available by itself at lippmann.com but it's showing OOS...hopefully it will show up again.

nails inc heddon street

it reminds me a little of lippmann bitches brew just not as red...and not as plum as SOPI meet for drinks

heddon street is part of the 4 color Winter Party Collection from nails inc.

beautiful burgundy shimmer
not as great as the cremes application wise...a little on the thin side to me.

if you don't have a chance to grab the nails inc i'm sure there are some close colors out there....it doesn't strike me as truly unique.

lippmann superstar
gorgeous dark brown jelly with copper glitter...it shines like a new penny in bright light
and straight sexy in low light
it's like the sun glimmering off the fall leaves...only on your nails. it makes me want hot cider and fresh pumpkin bread....fall wrapped up in a polish.

lippmann funky chunky

Deconstruction is what Deb Lippmann claims her intent was with Funky Chunky. Deconstruction is a way of tearing apart the foundation of what we know something as and showing it's instability or complexity. I am really not sure how or why that should apply to nail polish. Maybe it's just from the simple aspect of everything has already been 'done'.
Take the new Matte trend. it's the new big thing...but it's actually old.
Deb mentioned on her blog that she thought her polish looked like the top of the Anniversary box. Sequins scattered in the black. And while the basic idea does...the lack of the matte vs shine that the box has and the polish does not, makes my nails look like a lumpy bubbly hot mess.

So, while I appreciate the intent behind it I can't love it.
I don't actually hate it though, which surprised me.
The big mental block I have against textured nail polish is that it's...well, textured. As a nail polish nut I work really hard to create a smooth as glass, candy like finish on my nails. I love Poshe and Seche Vite for their ability to smooth out a surface and make it shine.

Putting lumps in my nail polish just makes me feel self conscience about them. I know they are 'deconstructed' but the chick at ULTA just thinks I layered my black over a glitter or I was half asleep painting them in various spots rather then taking my time to do a nice mani.
I will admit that I like the look up close. I do like to stare at the shapes. I just doubt anyone else is going to look close enough to appreciate them.

it's threatening to be cold today. it makes me crazy that we have had 95 degree days recently. i want fall!
so i think i'll force the matter and start posting my favorite warm sweater and hot cocoa season colors. i love the dusty greys and taupes. i also love a good vampy shimmer with the colors of the season

mmmm...i hope it stays cold enough for some cider tonight.
